Work with DICOM studies

RadAIChat can load individual DICOM files, ZIP archives, or a directory organized by a DICOMDIR file. DICOM parsing happens locally in your browser.

Load DICOM files

  • Choose Select DICOM/DCM file(s) for one or more individual files.
  • Choose Select DICOM directory for a folder containing a DICOMDIR file. Select the directory rather than the DICOMDIR file itself.
  • Drag and drop DICOM files, a ZIP archive, or a DICOMDIR folder onto the uploader. A ZIP archive should contain a DICOMDIR file and its referenced files.

For ordinary images, the uploader also accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and PDF.

Review a DICOMDIR study

After RadAIChat parses the directory, the viewer groups images by patient, study, and series. Open a series to inspect its images, then select only the images needed for the case.

The Auto Select control can select all images or a fixed number from each series. To change the default per-series amount, open Settings → Workflow → DICOM input → Images per series.

Selecting a focused set can make large studies faster to prepare and helps keep the case within your plan’s image limit.

What gets uploaded

DICOM headers and PHI metadata stay on your device. Only images you explicitly select are prepared and uploaded without DICOM PHI metadata. See Privacy, PHI protection, and ZDR for related controls.

Troubleshoot loading

  • No DICOMDIR found: choose the directory that contains the DICOMDIR file.
  • Invalid DICOMDIR: verify that the directory and referenced files retain their original structure.
  • Invalid DICOM file: confirm that you selected a supported, readable DICOM file.
  • Nothing happens on macOS: allow the browser to access files and folders, then try again.
  • An upload fails: expand the selected-image details and choose Retry failed uploads, or remove failed images before continuing.
  • A large study is slow: select fewer images per series, close unused browser tabs or applications, and retry.

Use the viewer’s Back control to return from a series to the study overview.
